Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of the mountain, grew up along the railroad tracks. Today the tracks are basically the main street. Imagine sitting at the restaurant in the picture as the train rolls by 3 feet from your table. I didn't notice any cars or trucks in the town. Everything seems to come in by rail, and then the goods get distributed by hand carts.
